Dr. Muhammad Akram Tariq
Dr. Muhammad Akram Tariq accomplished his PhD in Molecular Biology from National Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology, University of the Punjab, Lahore in sandwich program with Stanford University, California (CA), USA. He has worked as postdoctoral fellow in University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC), CA and has performed leading activities in UCSC Genome technology Center. He has published over 50 research articles with more than 100 impact factor in the field of Molecular Pathology and Molecular Medicine. He has patented several assays for molecular diagnostics and developed technologies utilizing RNA and DNA for disease identification disease stage determination and personalized medicine. He has won prestigious scholarships like Indigenous PhD Scholarship, International Research Support Initiative Program (IRSIP) and NASA (USA) Postdoctoral Fellowship. He is member of American Cancer Society, American Society of Human Genetics
He has over 15 years of experience in molecular biology techniques, such as Bacterial and Viral genotyping, sequencing, next-generation sequencing, microRNA sequencing, single cell sequencing for genomics and transcriptomics analysis. He is well versed in utilizing different high throughput sequencing instruments such as Genetic Analyzer, Hi-Seq (By Illumina), 454 Sequencer (By Roche) and Personal Genome Machine (PGM) (By Ion Torrent) for genetic diseases. Now a day, he has won research grant from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan entitled “Ameliorating symptoms of β-thalassemia by manipulating γ-globin levels through gene editing technologies”. He is contributing in national and international research projects as a faculty member in the University.
